Dive Master

One of the most respectable certifications across the world is that of a Divemaster. Once you have this certification, you will be able to proudly say, I am a Dive master. One of the reasons why many people opt for the divemaster certification is because it helps in developing a proper career in scuba diving. Once you have the divemaster certification, you will be able to organize scuba diving tours and also assist in scuba diving scientific expeditions. You will also be able to work with scuba diving schools supervising basic levels of scuba diving. Now isnt that interesting!

There are several small, big, and reputable organizations that offer divemaster certification courses but not all of them are the same. If you are looking for a certification that will be valid across international dive sites then the PADI or NAUI divemaster certification will hold you in good stead. The question is what all can you do as a Dive Master?

As a Divemaster:

  • You will be able to work with local dive centers of established scuba diving schools like PADI and NAUI. You will be able to travel with the students on yachts and dive boats to various dive sites and exotic locations
  • You will be able to assist other diving instructors as well as students
  • You will be able to lead guided scuba diving tours
  • You will be able to teach and Skin Divers and even certify them
  • You will get the opportunity to teach students of various snorkeling programs

The Divemaster Course

A Divemaster course is actually your first step towards a career that will be fun, enthralling, and a beautiful experience. As a part of a divemaster program, you will learn various aspects of diving other than the technical aspects of scuba diving. Some of the aspects that you will focus on include:

  • Honing dive leadership skills through theoretical (mostly in classrooms), practicals as well as independent study
  • You will have to complete a water skill test that will include various exercises underwater as well as stamina exercises
  • You will participate in training exercises that will focus on your ability to apply reason and logic to solving problems. This will help you if an accident or any untoward incident happens underwater
  • You will focus on helping other students improve in their scuba diving skills.
  • You will get the opportunity to put your knowledge to the test through a structured internship program that will consist of several training exercises.

Dive Master Certification Requirements

There are certain requirements for the divemaster certification course as this is an advanced program and needs some amount of experience and skills. The requirements include:

  • You have to be at least 18 years old
  • If you have opted to do it from PADI then you will need to have the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification. You can also provide qualified certificate from any another scuba diving organization
  • You need to have proper certification of a Rescue Diver
  • You should have completed a course in Emergency First Response as well as CPR training from a reputed organization in the last 24 months.
  • You should have a minimum of 20 dives in order to apply for this course
  • You should be physically fit and will have to submit a Medical Statement signed by a physician.
