Being able to dive underwater is in itself a great feeling but there are times when you come across colorful school of fish and are unable to recognize them. Did you know there are more than a million different species of fish in the oceans of the world? If you are interested in fish and marine environments and if you have been longing to learn scuba diving then the best course to take is the AWARE program. AWARE is the acronym for Aquatic World Awareness, Responsibility and Education (AWARE) and was established to preserve marine environments for our future generations. This was started back in 1989 to conserve sea animals and make their environment suitable for survival. AWARE is a completely non-profit organization that dedicates itself to raise the awareness among the people. Underwater plants and animals need to protected and preserved for the future generations to enjoy. This project helps to focus on the advocacy, education and the necessary action that needs to be taken for preservation. AWARE has a connection with scuba divers because they have a very different view and concern on the situation of the underwater environment. Scuba divers know the underwater creatures and their habitat. They are the right set of people who can monitor and manage the coral reefs and different species of fish in the sea and oceans. The question is where do you start? Our recommendation is the PADI AWARE Fish ID course. This is a scuba diving course that is different from all other and the primary aspect of the course is to impart knowledge of the various species of underwater fish. This means that the next time you take a dive, you will be able to identify the different and colorful fish that will glide or swim past you. Some of these fish will even shy away! Overview of the course The AWARE Fish ID course offers extensive information on different species of underwater fish. As a part of the program, you will be briefed about the basics of fish identification and given sufficient practice to master the same. Another important aspect of this course is that you will have to record all your observations and submit a report. The report will mention the various steps you have adopted for identify a particular species of fish underwater. Although, you will have to memorize hundreds of names, color and other information regarding a fish; it will still be a fun course! During the course, you will - Collect information on the aquatic protection followed worldwide and also on the AWARE program.
- The families of fish and the characteristics of each species of fish.
- The methods adopted for fish survey and the strategies used for their identification
- The dive planning and procedures for fish identification.
Every practice session, you will be asked to identify the fish that you encounter. A report is often expected to be submitted to the instructors or officials. Requirements for the courseThe prerequisites for this AWARE Fish ID course are fairly simple. The minimum age for qualification is 10 years of age or more.
