Underwater Navigator

During the Underwater Navigator course you will learn to use the compass and also how to navigate naturally. This is a specialty scuba course that is taught only by highly experienced instructors. Learning the basics of scuba diving is the fundamental part of this course and practicing it thoroughly is vital as navigation will never come naturally. Navigation means: keep your eyes open! If you go off to sleep underwater or miss your mark then it can be the thin line between life and death. An Underwater Navigator will hold a lot of responsibilities as you will be the person leading the way in and out.

Overview of the course

Underwater Navigation, no doubt, is a challenging course. Responsibility and confidence is the key and you will have to work really hard. As the course progresses, you will master different types of underwater navigation skills and this will include both theoretical lessons and dives. The use of compass and how it works is something that you will require to study in detail. Study of natural clues or natural navigation will be briefed out to help you understand the concept of navigation. The primary focus will be on the following:

  1. Navigation using compass
  2. Navigation without the use of compass
  3. The different patterns of navigation
  4. Map marking while diving
  5. How to relocate an object which is submerged and also positioning the objects
  6. Using the Navigation aided instruments
  7. To estimate the distance underwater and identify the dive site location

Requirements

There are some basic requirements for the underwater navigator course and this includes:
  • You should be at least 10 years of age or more
  • You should possess a certified Open Water Diver from an established institution
