The function of a regulator is to reduce the air which is at a relatively high pressure to a breathable level. The SCUBA regulators mostly use two stages of pressure reduction. The first stage attaches to the scuba cylinder and reduces the pressure to an intermediate level of about 140psi. The mechanism in the first type can be piston type or the diaphragm type. The first stage is connected through a hose to the second stage which contains the mouth piece. This reduces the air pressure to a breathable level. The types of regulators include the constant flow type, twin hose type and the two stage single hose type. |
